Tier 1Generic Drugs:
The official title of a drug or drug ingredients published in the latest edition of a nationally-recognized pharmacopoeia (book containing an official list of medical drugs). These are drugs not carrying a trade-name. For example: Diazepam is the generic form of Valium. Generic drugs are FDA-approved and are as safe and effective as brand name drugs. Additionally Generic drugs are usually the lowest cost option.
Tier 2Preferred Drugs:
Tier 2- Preferred drugs are described as brand-name drugs on the KPS preferred drug list. Tier 2 drugs are more cost-effective than Tier 3 and a good solution if your physician decides a brand name drug is recommended for your condition.
Tier 3Non-Preferred Drugs:
Non Preferred Drugs are KPS approved drugs that may include brand-name drugs, which have equally safe and effective Tier 1 or Tier 2 options. Drugs listed on Tier 3 are always paid at the highest copay level.
